In 2008, I earned my designation as a Certified Protection Professional.
This designate has been offered by ASIS International since 1977 and is the only global accreditation in the security industry – recognized in more than 30 countries. This Accreditation is also recognized under ISO/IEC 17024.
The course requires an eligibility based on experience & education; a number of text books; a course preview option (taken in Boston in 2008) and a 4 hour comprehensive supervised examination. On-going education is required to maintain the CPP designation.
The course includes eight general areas of study as follows:
- Security Principles and Practices
- Business Principles and Practices
- Physical Security
- Investigations
- Personnel Security
- Emergency Practices
- Information Security
- Legal Aspects (Canadian Civil & Criminal law)
I am also a member of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and am the former Chair of Montreal Chapter #196.
