Is a Canadian election really necessary at this time?

I really question the wisdom of our federal leaders in calling another election.

It seems to be a rather expensive and needless exercise. 

No party, leader, or issue inspires me at this point.

    It is perfectly clear as to why the election was called:

     

    The Conservatives are leading in the polls, and Harper is going after his chance to have a majority government.

     

    Think about a Harper totally unfettered to express his total ideology.
